The Brigadier is the pseudonym of Welsh Singer, Songwriter, musician and Producer Matt Williams who has been acclaimed for his intimate live shows and melodic, quirky pop songs. After a series of bands throughout his teens and early twenties, Matt, whilst based in Brighton, established an online following which led to Creation & Poptones boss Alan McGee to offer The Brigadier his debut solo gig at his Death Disco night in Notting Hill, London. An increasing profile led Matt to receive plaudits for his debut album 'View from the Bath' in 2007. This was followed by a few intense years of sporadic gigs and several albums as well as four seasonally themed EPs which helped to cement his fanbase.

He then relocated to the Westcountry and started a family. After a hiatus of eight years he returned in 2025 with ‘Sailing the Seven Neuroses’ which was longlisted for the Welsh Music Prize of the same year. As well as writing and recording songs in the pop/rock medium Matt has also received and completed soundtrack work for documentaries and short films. He has also had national and local radio coverage in the UK (Including BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Southern Counties and Radio Devon as well as performing live sessions and interviews for BBC Southern Counties and BBC Devon), USA and Europe, as well as magazine coverage.
